VEGAS
On the last flight, I had a window seat and would periodically see an evanescent bright flash on the ground that would disappear as soon as I saw it. It took me a while, but I finally figured out that it was the reflection of the full and bright moon off of ponds and lakes on the ground.
I met up with Ian, and we waited for an HOUR in the Dollar rent-a-car line (note to self, never rent from Dollar again). Then it was a short drive to the Luxor, where we ate amazing Texas BBQ brisket for dinner. Unfortunately, there was no fridge in the room, so we improvised:

Jardins des Dauphins
I hobbled into town with Chloe and the kids… very high water in the river today.

Bike crash!
The one positive thing is that I discovered a great way to treat road rash: Tegaderm! It works miracles.

Hiking and chestnuts
We went on a nice hike up above Proveysieux. The kids haven't been very interested in hiking, and to be honest, most of our attempts have ended up in much whining and carrying. Today, however, the kids were great, except for a slight Alex meltdown at the end. We found a prodigious chestnut tree along the way and gathered a bag full of chestnuts. The sharp spiky husks caused some unexpected tears, but otherwise they were impressive in their chest nutting skills. Later that evening we roasted them, and they were delicious.
